YMCA Fitness Coordinator

Nature & Scope:

At the YMCA of Moose Jaw, the Fitness Coordinator is an essential part of our team and help to contribute to the overall success of our Association. As the Fitness Coordinator, you are the face of the YMCA of Moose Jaw.

You will be responsible for ensuring excellence in member services through the day to day administration and delivery of all adult fitness programs. As a member of the fitness programs team, you will work with other staff to train, develop and recruit staff and volunteers. This position places a strong emphasis on program leadership, program planning, implementation and exceptional member service.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • College Diploma or University Degree in related field (Fitness, Physical Education, Kinesiology) or equivalent experience
  • Certification in all streams of group fitness, certification in personal training, Individual Conditioning Level II Certification
  • At least two years’ experience working with/facilitating staff or volunteers   
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills  
  • Good computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR Level C
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check issued no later than 6 months preceding your start date.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • To assist the Fitness Manager to ensure linkages between all departments, leading to the successful implementation of membership program strategies, and ultimately the YMCA Strategic Plan
  • To understand and believe in the value of philanthropy and to impart this belief upon staff, volunteers and members
  • Implement, monitor and evaluate classes and programs that are on trend, aligning with YMCA strategic priorities that serves the needs of the community
  • Direct involvement in the delivery of all programs and services within the adult fitness department
  • Deliver fitness programs that engage the needs of the community in schools, organizational associations, workplacesand community events
  • Recruit, train and supervise all group fitness leaders ensuring personnel files are current and all YMCA required documentation is present
  • Organize and facilitate training to volunteer instructors to ensure program quality and leadership
  • Monitor and track fitness class usage, volunteer hours, invoices and payments
  • Administer and maintain program and class registrations, refunds, and database entries, etc
  • Implement and monitor program and class evaluation results, and set goals and priorities for implementation of changes
  • Recruit, train, evaluate and supervise a team of Personal Trainers for one on one and group training
  • Perform administration duties with regards to group fitness and personal training including invoicing and contracts
  • Deliver conditioning centre orientations as required
  • Deliver personal training services as required according to Personal Training Contract
  • Monitor and track racquetball usage, funding requirements, and engagement opportunities
  • Responsible for the care, maintenance and ordering of fitness equipment for classes, programs and general use
  • Implement an atmosphere for fitness engagement and member involvement at both Athabasca and Fairford locations
  • Assist Manager of Fitness Services to ensure standards, policies and procedures are maintained
  • Participate in program planning and goal setting meetings as required
  • Respond to member concerns in a positive and professional manner
  • To enthusiastically assume related responsibilities as outlined in Succession plan and that are assigned
  • Adhere to and ensure compliance with YMCA policies and procedures including Child Protection standards
