Thursday June 20, 2019

Over the next month we will begin to invite our members in Moose Jaw to join in the various communication channels available to remain up-to-date on information about the YMCA of Regina and local programs and services. We will be sharing, for example, how to connect to relevant news on the YMCA of Regina website and where to find information on a number of social media sites.

We wanted to highlight for members that this week the YMCA of Regina held a membership information meeting. As stated in its membership information meeting notice, Members were updated about the YMCA of Regina’s current financial status and plans to improve their local operations. The meeting included walking members through an overview of the programs and services offered in Regina and a wide-range of options the Board is actively considering to strengthen their financial position.

In addition to the membership information meeting, members will be able to provide their feedback through membership surveys and by providing confidential comments to the Board and CEO through the Regina YMCA Membership website portal. The YMCA of Regina Board and Senior Team remain committed to an open, community-engaged process as they make decisions to secure a healthy future.

While Regina faces similar financial challenges to those seen in Moose Jaw, the Regina association has developed a strong response and plan that preceded the decision to support the Moose Jaw community by operating local Child Care, Before and After School, Mentorship and Day Camp programs. By amalgamating the Moose Jaw Child Care operations with the YMCA of Regina operations, we plan to build a single stronger organization for all our members.

We look forward to welcoming Moose Jaw families as they transition to becoming YMCA of Regina members and encourage families to continue to visit this website for updates as we work to support our members, staff and volunteers through the transition.

Sincerely,

Steve Compton, CEO YMCA of Regina & Diana Deakin-Thomas, Interim CEO YMCA of Moose Jaw

At our membership meeting on May 28th we announced some major changes for the YMCA in Moose Jaw that will enable the YMCA to continue to provide essential services to meet the needs of the diverse communities we serve.

Effective July 2, 2019 subject to finalization of definitive agreements, the YMCA of Regina will be assuming leadership over the operations of all of the YMCA Child Care services with no changes or disruptions to the families we serve.

After 114 years of service to the Moose Jaw community, the YMCA of Moose Jaw will be winding down its remaining operations and closing the doors on two of its leased locations in Moose Jaw on June 30, 2019. The YMCA of Moose Jaw is working with partners in the community on the reorganization of a diverse range of community programs and services.
