In April, 2017 The YMCA received a very generous donation from the Saskatchewan Rivers Chapters of Safari Club International of $5,0000 to help build the YMCA outdoor summer program.

Members of the Saskatchewan Rivers Chapter of Safari Club International chose the YMCA to be the recipients of the award to improve the archery program and summer outdoor adventure for our school aged summer camps.

We are very thankful to the Safari Club and Orion Taxidermy fortheir generous donation and dedication to the YMCA’s outdoor summer program.

YMCA Receives Donation from Mosaic

On Saturday, April 15th, 2017 I got to witness hockey with a heart – Mosaic - Belle Plaine held their 4th Annual Spring Charity Classic Hockey Tournament where they raised $2,500.00 in support of the Strong Kids Campaign.

Mosaic employees choose a charitable organization each year to receive the funds raised by the Tournament, and this year the YMCA of Moose Jaw’s Strong Kids Campaign was chosen as the beneficiary.  For that we are grateful!

Mosaic strives to be a thoughtful and engaged neighbor who seeks partnerships with organizations that are making a difference. We were told this is why Mosaic chose to partner with YMCA of Moose Jaw on this event.

We all know that teamwork makes the dream work and we would like to thank the Spring Classic Charity organizers and the Mosaic Belle Plaine Wellness Committee for their commitment to this fundraiser event. The hockey themed day was filled with fun events for all ages and even included an Easter Scavenger Hunt for the kids.  While we acknowledge those at the faceoff we also want to acknowledge those with fire in their heart and Ice in their veins…the players, coaches, volunteers and those who generously donated to the Strong Kids Campaign.

Every day the dedicated YMCA of Moose Jaw staff and volunteers provide a safe and healthy gathering place for many individuals. Donations provide us with the opportunity to shoot and score by making an impact in the community and so many lives.  The impact is captured in the journey of every child, every individual and every family whose YMCA story is being written.  Donations allow us to practice winning every day!

Thank you Team Mosaic!

YMCA to Begin Strong Kids Month

PRESS RELEASE

For immediate release

YMCA Celebrates Strong Kids Month

YMCA STRONG KIDS Campaign February 15th – March 15th, 2017

The YMCA will be launching our annual Strong Kids Campaign starting February 15th!

The Strong Kids Campaign financially assists local children, youth and families in utilizing YMCA programs and services – building self-esteem, self-confidence and developing healthy lifestyles in a safe, fun and positive environment.  This is so very important to us.

  • Only 15% of children in Saskatchewan receive adequate daily physical activity. Physical activity and literacy are incorporated into our programs to promote healthy habits that will serve them well into the future.

  • 1/3 of all Canadians report that they have no sense of community. The connection people make at the Y every day reduces social isolation.

At the Y, we believe that a family’s health should not be determined by the size of their bank account. Your donation will help Moose Jaw families access better health.

Sometimes a family just needs a helping hand. Your gift to YMCA Strong Kids will give a family a strong, healthy start. We have several events that will run throughout the Strong Kids Launch:

  • Join us at our Fairford location for Family Day on February 20th from 10 am – 12 pm when we open up our doors to the community.  All activities are free and donations are accepted.

  • Support a rider for the Expresso Rally. Ride. Raise by going to www.expresso.com/rallyforthey in the month of February, or donate at either of our fitness locations. Expresso will donate an additional $1,000 to the top team.

  • Pledge a child for the Move-A-Thon that will be held at each of our child-minding facilities. Salina, one of our Fitness Instructors, will ensure the kids have the opportunity to be active while exploring different movements and having a lot of fun!

  • Become a Face-to-Face volunteer Champion!  Our annual campaign is the cornerstone of our charitable mission and your participation will make certain that we turn nobody away for an inability to pay.

Give generously today.

Breakfast with Santa raises over $6,000 for the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign

Press Release

YMCA of Moose Jaw Receives Donation during 7th Annual Breakfast with Santa

Tuesday January 3rd, 2017 - On behalf of the YMCA of Moose Jaw Board of Directors and staff, we would like to send a special thank you to The Knights of Columbus, Father Lawless Council #1534 for their presentation of a cheque in the amount of $1,500 and the Saskatchewan Knights of Columbus Charitable Foundation for their presentation of a cheque in the amount of $4,000, which includes a $500 endowment from Robert Tiede! They presented their cheques to the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign during our 7th Annual Breakfast with Santa held on Saturday, December 3, 2016. Thanks to the generous donations combined with ticket sales the event raised over $6,250.

7 years ago Al Rossler, with the Knights of Columbus, contacted us to begin a "Breakfast with Santa" event and to have the proceeds go towards our Strong Kids Campaign. This event has built a great relationship not only between our organizations, but also with community and all those who attend. Al and his fellow Knights donate their time to cook the breakfast, donate the space to hold the event, as well as set up, clean up and help promote the breakfast.

We would also like to thank our local Superstore for generously donating all groceries required for breakfast! Tickets for the event were printed by Minute Man Press at cost allowing us to keep our cost for the event down. Their support is truly appreciated!

The event served children and families a pancake breakfast with sausages, pancakes and fruit. The kids were entertained with crafts as well as the most important guest – SANTA - who brought goodie bags to them all. Nearly 250 people were served over the course of the morning. Supporter’s and members of the community are an integral part of the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign. The goal of our campaign is to sponsor as many children, youth and families as are needed in the community of Moose Jaw, building self-esteem, self-confidence and developing healthy lifestyles in a safe, fun and positive environment. At the YMCA, no one is denied access to any YMCA program or service solely on the inability to pay the full fee. Our focus on inclusiveness and accessibility means we serve people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities through all stages of life. The Strong Kids Campaign provides funding for financially disadvantaged children, youth and families to participate in YMCA camps, programs and services.

Requests for financial assistance increase every year— and with your help we are able to ensure no one is turned away and support those in need. Through the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, the YMCA is accessible to all! This year our goal is to raise $130,000 – if you would like to donate or volunteer at one of our events please contact Angie at 306-692-0688 ext. 229.
