YMCA of Moose Jaw receives Canada Post Community Foundation support

The YMCA of Moose Jaw received $10,000 from the Canada Post Community Foundation for an exciting project, Grade 6 Initiative, for the 2018-19 school year.

YMCA of Moose Jaw believes youth need a place to belong, to feel safe, and to explore and grow during the important developmental stage of their Grade 6 year. Studies have shown Grade 6 is the age in which a child is faced with many decisions, often with two options - a healthy one and an unhealthy one.

YMCA of Moose Jaw intends to give Grade 6 youth opportunities around recreation and holistic health. The ability to promote and build healthy relationships with youth will help to expand their pro-social networks, build healthy relationships with peers, and establish relationships with positive adult role models. All Moose Jaw students registered in Grade 6 will receive a free YMCA membership. These children will have access to two Health and Fitness facilities and a multitude of different programming aimed at increasing physical activity, building leadership and life skills, enhancing teamwork and friendship skills, and of course, having fun!

“We are overjoyed to have received the support of the Canada Post Community Foundation. We are excited to be supporting children by providing them with increased physical and recreational opportunities in the short term, while helping build the supports they need to improve their health into the future,” says Jenn Angus, Manager of Educational and Community Initiatives with the YMCA.

“Canada Post is proud to help organizations and projects that make a difference in the lives of Canadian children and youth. Through the generosity of our customers, the Canada Post Community Foundation is able to fund important programs in communities across the country every year.”
