There are a large number of youth in our community that have identified that they do not participate in any physical or recreation activities. We know that the time period between 3:00 and 6:00 PM is a critical time for youth to participate in “risky” behaviours, as well as evenings and weekends. 2015 data with students in our community indicates that less than 50% of grade 10-12 students participate in school sports or clubs.
WHAT ARE WE DOING ABOUT IT:
Working in partnership with the AXIS Youth Committee, a Youth Activity Coordinator is available to go out into the community and into the school to engage youth. The coordinator is able to do outreach, bring activities into schools, and bring groups of youth out into the community. This outreach with youth can create a comfort level that eases any trepidation in trying new activities. Plugged In also ensures that transportation is provided for youth where it is a barrier and that all programs are free or low cost. Check out the AXIS Facebook, Twitter or Instagram to see what’s going on for YOUth in Moose Jaw.
