Direct Report: Supervisor of School Age Services
Status: Part Time
Hours: Monday to Friday (split shift: 615am-915am and/or 3pm-6pm or 8 hour days on non-school days)
Rate of Pay: $12.50
Nature & Scope
The primary focus of this position will be to ensure children and youth are provided with a variety of age appropriate activities/programming that supports their positive growth in spirit, mind and body. School Age Program Leaders are directly responsible for delivering fun, safe and positive experiences for groups of 8 – 15 children aged 6-12 years. Additionally, they must be able to develop a program curriculum that includes, but is not limited to themed programs, creative movement, literacy, and sports-based programs.
Duties & Responsibilities
To be available for work during before or after school hours, on non-school days, school breaks and early dismissal days.
To greet each participant and their parent(s) courteously using names whenever possible.
To recognize new participants and to be accessible to parents and participants to answer questions and respond to concerns.
To be available to consistently lead all programs assigned.
To be able to create and adapt plans appropriate to the program, skill level and age of the participants.
To be responsible for the safety and security of all participants in your care, at all times following the YMCA policies and procedures.
To keep program areas clean, organized, and safe for everyone’s use checking for potential health and safety hazards at all times and completing incident reports when necessary.
To deal with any emergency situations that arise, following the YMCA policies.
To interact with the children in a positive and supportive manner, taking into consideration each participant’s uniqueness.
To develop positive relationships with children, staff members and volunteers, while always displaying a professional image.
To ensure that all relevant information is shared with the appropriate members of the program team.
To adhere to all YMCA child protection policies and procedures.
Ensures compliance with YMCA policies and procedures.
Coaching and Development: Commits to assisting participants, volunteers, staff and self in continuous learning and development.
Leadership: Motivates and inspires self and others to take action to achieve desired outcomes.
Creativity and Innovation: Develops new ways or adapts existing ideas to help us achieve desired results. Challenges the status quo to discover more effective ways of performing and learning.

Initiative: Has the ability to be self-directed and complete tasks without being asked. Can direct and engage children when scheduled programming or activities encounter unforeseen circumstances that affect the outcome.
Communication Skills: The candidate will be required to communicate with children, parents and other staff in a professional and welcoming manner. They will have the ability to speak to and instruct groups of children in a manner that engages their participation and plan activities that are based on the children's interests.
Organizational Skills: The candidate will be required to plan and deliver a variety of programs, track attendances and registration statistics.
Computer Skills: The candidate will be efficient in using Microsoft Office software.
Time Management: The candidate must be able to multi-task efficiently manage time and duties.
Qualifications & Requirements
1-2 years of Experience working with children and youth
A valid class 5 license
Experience with program development is an asset
Current First Aid and CPR Level C
Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Search (issued no later than 6 months preceding your start date) before their start date.
